Garissa Woman Representative hopeful Ebla Sahal has pledged to spearhead and boost girl child education in the county if elected in the August 8 general election.

According to the Women Rep hopeful, majority of clans and communities in the county still under-value girl child education.

Addressing supporters in Garissa on Saturday, the aspirant vying on Amani national Congress (ANC) party said that thousands of girls have been denied education because of some demeaning cultural practices.

She said that her agenda will be to push for reforms that will enlighten the community on the importance and need of educating both girls and boys.

She said that the county and the larger Northern Kenyan will not register development unless both girls and boys are empowered equally.

‘‘The universal human rights provides for equal opportunities for both the boy and the girl child in education and other areas and that is why I will be seeking to push for equality if elected,’’ she said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Sahal also pledged to empower women, youth and Persons living with Disabilities (PLWD).

She criticized Governor Nathif Jama’s government saying that it has side-lined marginalized groups. Sahal   pleaded with residents to back her bid saying she is fit for the job and will not disappoint.

She asked the incumbent Shukran Gure and others in the race to prepare for tough battle on August 8.

Others in the Garissa woman rep race are Annab Subow vying on Jubilee Party ticket, Amina Keinan contesting on Kanu ticket, Fatuma Kinsi vying on ODM ticket, Maryam Sheikh contesting on Thirdsway Alliance party
