A woman was found with half her body submerged in a pit latrine in Juja sub-county on Saturday morning.
Miriam Wanyuru, 46, was found by a neighbour who had gone to visit her only to hear her calling for help from the washroom.
Wanyuru,a widow, is said to be living alone in the homestead and uses the pit latrine as a bathroom too, making it so worn out that it couldn’t withstand her weight any longer.
Speaking after rescuing the woman from falling off the pit, Witeithie police post Senior Sergeant James Linguli said that the woman has been living alone for a long time now.
He added that Wanyuru has been risking her life as she lives in a deserted homestead where she cannot ask for help from anyone around.
The woman was rescued and due to shock she fainted immediately she was rescued.
She is now receiving treatment at the Thika Level Five Hospital.
Following the incident area public health officer Flora Gakui has ordered the latrine to be demolished, saying it’s unhealthy to the area residents and insisted that anyone using a similar facility in the area should demolish it before action is taken.
