A woman believed to have been part of a gang of three men was burnt by members of the public beyond recognition in Mwariki, Nakuru County on Wednesday night. According to the area chief, Joseph Machria the unidentified woman could have been a member of the gang that has been terrorising the residents in the area. Confirming the incident the Nakuru OCPD Bernard Kioko said that the gang was in a botched robbery attempt at around midnight when the incident occurred. “They had attacked a homestead when the owner noticed and raised alarm. The men were able to escape without stealing anything leaving the woman behind at the mercy of the irate residents who mobbed her before setting her ablaze. A manhunt for those who escaped has started”, says Kioko. “I first noticed the woman’s voice, then I could hear the men talk in whispers and it was clear they were preparing to attack my house. I raised an alarm and villagers responded fast”, says the robbery victim who chose to remain anonymous. The residents used tyres to raze the woman whose body has since been taken to Nakuru mortuary for postmortem. The OCPD however warned residents against taking law into their own hands saying it is illegal and they can be prosecuted in a court of law. The officer advised the residents to be surrendering offenders to the police for appropriate actions.
