A 36-year-old woman was on Thursday night rushed to Kathiani hospital in Machakos County after an alleged abortion attempt went sour.
Confirming the incident, Kaani assistant chief Bernard Mutua Muasya identified the woman as a bartender at a local pub in Kaani Market.
"We were informed that the woman had secure abortion and we actually found an infant in a basin full of water but unfortunately the child was already dead," said Muasya.
According to the area chief, the woman allegedly took a full bottle of a yet to be confirmed substance after which she managed to abort the baby.
However, an unstoppable bleeding by the said woman forced neighbours to intervene and rush her to Kathiani District hospital.
"The police have taken the body of the infant to Kathiani Hospital mortuary as the mother receives medical attention," added Muasya.
Police have since launched investigation into the case.
