A Kisii Court has sentenced a 30-year-old woman in prison after it found her guilty of trafficking a three-year-old girl.
Senior Principal Magistrate Nathan Lutta ruled that Doris Kemunto was guilty of child trafficking offense committed on May 7, 2013, at Bomorenda Location, Bonchari Constituency in Kisii County.
“This court has proved beyond reasonable doubts that the first accused person is guilty of the offense of child trafficking. She is therefore sentenced to serve 30 years in jail while the second accused person has been acquitted due to lack of evidence linking her to the crime,” said Justice Lutta. The court was told that the young girl who was living with her grandmother at the time, had been left in the company of her aunt, the accused.
The victim's grandmother came back and found out that her daughter-in-law and granddaughter were missing.
Kemunto was accused of having fraudulently transferred the baby to the second accused, Carren Asiago, who resided at Kenyenya area in Kisii County.
