A woman died on Tuesday evening after she was struck by lightning at Nyaani village, Machakos County.
The 30-year-old woman, in company of another, was allegedly sheltering under a tree before she was struck and died. Confirming the incident, area chief Morris Sukali said that the other woman survived with serious leg injuries.
The chief said that the injured woman is recuperating at Machakos Level Five hospital.
Sukali cautioned residents’ against taking shelter under trees during rain saying its risk.
“People should stop sheltering under trees or outside buildings when it is raining,” he said.
The body of the deceased was taken to Machakos Level Five hospital for post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, the chief has asked locals to embrace unity and desist from acts that will disrupt peace.
He said that the county government has put in place adequate measures meant to ensure there is peace.
He asked youths to apply for development funds and take part in business instead of idling in villages.
“Young people should take advantage of the help being provided by the government and promote their lives,” he added.
