A woman in Onyata village, Siaya has threatened to sue the county government over what she terms dumping garbage on her land against the agreed leasehold period.
According to Citizen Digital, thirty-seven-year-old Agnes Oniare Otumba said she had leased her half-acre land in 2005 for Sh40,000 per month to the defunct Bondo town council for ten years, a period that has since expired.
She said she wrote several letters to the county secretary and also copied to the sub-county Administrator upon the expiry of the leasehold period, but instead, the county has continued dumping waste on the plot.
In one of her letters dated August 31, this year, Otumba asked the county government to stop dumping garbage on her land, but is yet to receive a response.
The residents have also lodged a complaint with the devolved unit saying the dumpsite poses health risks.
On his part, Bondo Town Administrator Philip Mbidio said he has received Otumba’s complaint letters, adding that the administration is looking for another location as a dumpsite.
He was, however, non-commital to state when they will stop dumping garbage on Otumba’s land.
