A 26 year old woman will be in charged in court after she was arrested on Wednesday in Nakuru for attempting to sell her day old son to start a vegetable business. Following a tip off from officers from the Children's department in Nakuru led by a children's officer, Mr. David Wawire the woman was trailed from Nakuru hospital to the hotel where the transaction was to take place.Wawire said the woman approached him before she delivered, offering to sell the baby for Ksh 80,000.Wawire said the woman on several occasions during the bargaining, she threatened to strike a deal with another buyer at the hospital if payments were not made in full."It was a hard job and we had to provide for her upkeep for the last three months of the pregnancy to keep the baby safe," said one of the officers who posed as Wawire's spouse during the negotiations.The woman blamed her predicament on her negligent and abusive husband and said that she would inform him the baby died as soon as she gave birth. In an undated agreement binding both the buyer and the seller, Wawire was to pay Sh46, 000 on the spot and settle the rest through MPesa.The woman was not claim the baby back immediately after the transaction was completeOn being questioned the woman said she needed the money to set up a stall to sell vegetables, and that her husband of one year was abusive and did not provide for her and their two-year-old daughter.
