The body of a middle aged woman Joyce Auma, who's been buried for more than two years was reported missing from her grave in Bolo location Nyakach, Kisumu county.
The incident came to light on Monday morning when the family members of the deceased, Benjamin Rambogo, Joyce Auma's uncle found her grave half-dug and reported the matter to the local Chief.
However, the Area Chief Zedekiah Okello said he had lodged a complaint with the police concerning the matter and is waiting for the police probe to get over with investigations.
According to the Area Chief, he suspected that the body was stolen by thieves from the graveyard to perform some cultural rituals.
The family members of the deceased have expressed shock over the incident.
Mr Michael Okello noted that her daughter Joyce Auma had been engaged three times and the marriages were unsuccessful. However, the deceased husbands never attended the burial ceremony.
He, however, dismissed claims that there were quarrels before she was buried.
“She (Ms Auma) had had three unsuccessful marriages, her former husbands who had abandoned her neither attended her burial nor claimed her body. There had been no disagreement over land or the venue of the burial,” Mr Okello told the Nation.
