The remains of a 32-year old woman were exhumed and reburied on Monday following a court order that was served to the family of the deceased on grounds of burying the body on the wrong piece of land.
The court ruled that the body of Susan Wambui who was buried in January this year in a piece of land in Maraigushu, Naivasha in Nakuru county to be reburied in her family’s farm.
The family of the deceased accidentally buried their kin on a wrong piece of land which later led to the rightful owner of the said plot to seek the courts intervention.
“The family of the late Wambui buried the body on this plot of land by accident. There were no intentions to bury one of their own in another person’s land since they have their own land.
We have obeyed the court order and we are ready to do as the ruling stated,” affirmed Joseph Muraguri, one of the elders.
The family thereafter reburied the remains in their rightfully owned piece of land with only the family members present.
One of the health officials who was among those conducting the exercise confirmed that the team was acting in obedience to the order issued by the court. They later engaged on an exercise to disinfect the old grave for health concerns.
