Middle aged woman's body was found hanging from a tree in Kwa Katunga forest in Mumbuni sub-location on Feb 11.
Confirming the incident the area chief Mathew Mulei said that the woman's body was discovered by passersby who were walking along a path in the forest where he alerted the residents who called him from his office.
"I am saddened by the death of this woman. Residents have reported to me about the incident whereby I have taken action to call machakos OCPD Adiel Nyange to send police officers to the scene," he said.
He added that he had not found any written documents to identify the woman or even his identification card as according to the residents the deceased is not from the Mumbuni area.
"Therefore, some people might have brought her from far and killed her from this place," said Mulei.
The woman's body was picked by police officers and was taken to Machakos level five hospital mortuary.
Investigations to identify the woman and know what led to her death have kicked off.
