Woman activists in Garissa county moved to the streets to push the county assembly to enact laws that will eradicate gender-based violence targeting women.
Statistics show that Garissa is among the counties that gender-based violence targeting women are on the increase. In most cases, such incidents go unreported or are resolved through local mechanisms popularly known as ‘maslah’.
The women want the assembly to declare sexual and gender-based violence a matter of grave concern.
The procession ended at the county assembly where a written petition was received by deputy speaker and Waberi MCA.
