Women in Kisii and Nyamira counties have been urged to come out in the next general election to vie for political seats from ward levels to national level to limit salaries paid to nominated leaders.
The Supreme Council chairman of the Abagusii Culture and Development Council (ACDC), retired senior chief, James Matundura said county governments and national government uses a lot of money in paying salaries to nominated leaders.
He said there is a need for women to come out and vie for political seats to balance 2/3 gender rule to limit the salaries.
“Governments nominates many of the leaders who get salaries and we need to calculate how we can do away with nominations,” James Matundura told the press.
Matundura added, “I am urging women in Kisii and Nyamira counties and other counties to vie for political seats to be elected to limit salaries paid to nominated leaders.”
He also said in the next 2017 general election, the council will not support any political party since that divides Aabagusii residents.
