Nyamira County’s Maendeleo ya Wanawake chair Mary Orwenyo has called upon all women in the county to consider joining Saccos in order to empower themselves.
She said Saccos and other forms of savings will be the only forms of women improving their livelihoods and those of their families, and will help them grow economically.
Speaking at a public function in Nyamira, Orwenyo said that the numbers of women involved in Saccos was wanting, and thus more women ought to enroll and enjoy the benefits.
She said that they (Saccos) were better placed in terms of saving as they earned the depositors a lot of interests unlike when the same money is kept in homes. She also added that the economy of the county and that of the country will grow as the money will be in circulation.
“I want to urge our women to consider joining Saccos where they will learn on saving and utilizing money in these hard economic times. Their number today in the Saccos is wanting and I encourage them to join and empower themselves and improve on their livelihoods,” she said.
