Kisii county head for health docket Sarah Omache has urged residents to go for regular tests and screening for diabetes so as to prevent the disease at early stages.
Omache said women are at high risk contradicting the disease compared to men.
She said the county will start campaigns to sensitize locals on how they should manage the disease to avoid unnecessary deaths caused by the disease.
"Diabetes does not spare whether rich or poor in society. I call on residents to visit health centers to be tested and screened so that the disease can be prevented in time,'' she said.
Omache noted that the county will stock more drugs at health centers to help diabetes patients.
"More drugs will be supplied to all public health centers so that patients can access them without traveling long distances from remote areas to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital to get the drugs,'' she added.
