Kikuyu Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization (MYWO) chairlady Rehab Kehebu has asked women in Kiambu to join the fight against illicit brewing.
Addressing women at Kikuyu town on Friday, Kehubu said that illicit brewing has caused suffering and agony to many families in the county.
She said the fight against the brews must be fought by every person who wishes to see the county succeed and realise its development goals.
Kehubu noted that illicit brews have seen many women lose their husbands and sons.
“I urge women across Kiambu to join the government in the fight against illicit brews,” he said.
The MYWO chairlady noted that women have a big responsibility in ensuring a sober society.
“We feel bad and demoralised when we see the young people we gave birth to being 'destroyed' by illegal alcohol,” she said.
Kehebu asked the government to help youths who have been affected.
She said the number of drug addicts in Kikuyu alone is alarming. The chairlady lauded the directive by President Uhuru Kenyatta on the fight against brews saying it will put an end to the menace.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday gave MPs and chiefs in Central Kenya four days to get rid of illicit brews.
Kiambu County has been on the spot light with several people succumbing to deaths after consuming illegal brews and alcohol.
