The women form a remote part of Nakuru County say the nearest maternity facility is more than 10 km away.

Ms Eunice Lelei, the chairlady of Neswit Women Empowerment Initiative group say that Neswit is a vast area with few health facilities, which puts many pregnant women at a huge health risk.

"Many women have ended up giving birth at home because they can't access a maternity facility. Other women who are HIV positive sometimes infects their infants with the disease when giving birth due to lack of necessary expertise during delivery," Lelei told the press on Thursday at Neswit.

She said the area is very remote and has also asked other stakeholders to come up and help the women.

The group also wants other well wishers to come and help them in buying sanitary towels to be distributed to school-going girls in the area.

"We request sponsors who can help us buy sanitary towels for our school girls to help us keep them in school," said Lelei.
