The women say the criminal gangs of youth aged between 12 and 20 years steal from women and when the women have nothing worth stealing, they suck their breasts.

Speaking in a Mombasa hotel on Wednesday, Ms Topista Juma, an officer in charge of gender and children at Muslim for Human Rights Commission, said the notorious criminal gangs are armed with machetes.

The women called on the county government to take stern action, adding that the criminal gangs mostly operate in Soko Mjinga and Barsheba.

Ms Juma issued a seven-day ultimatum to the county government and the police to arrest the criminal gangs, threatening to hold demos if appropriate action is not taken.

Ms Juma said the women are fed up with the manner in which police are combating insecurity in the area, as the criminal gangs are terrorizing residents and visitors in the Coast region.

“We are giving the government an ultimatum of seven days to deal with this crime and the perpetrators or else we will take to the streets. Arrest the culprits committing these crimes and making women live in fear,” said Ms Juma.
