Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung’wa has issued cheques to 100 women groups in the constituency for entrepreneurial services.
Speaking on Tuesday before issuing the cheques to the women groups at CDF Grounds, the MP said that these finances were for women groups and they were meant for entrepreneurship.
He said that women had a lot of potential in the business sector and if they are well financed, they can really bring a lot of profit not only for their groups but also to the county government.
He said that women groups were very active in development agendas and hence other groups such as the youth groups should emulate such to make their groups efficient. He revealed that youths had the potential in the area but they faced the challenge of some groups dividing after they receive the money.
"Women groups have different projects that we have inspected and seen a lot of potential. We have poultry farming, bee keeping, cabbage farming and animal feeds businesses among those we saw that these groups had started,’’ said Ichung’wa.
He revealed that these businesses were doing well and women needed more money to facilitate these businesses and also create employment for the youth in the area in the farms. He said that over 70 youths had been employed through these groups and they expect even more when they receive these cheques.
Ichung’wa said that they had issued every group a sum of sh100,000 each to expand their businesses and create opportunities for the youths to get employment.
