They received the chicks from Inua Mama Initiative project, an initiative of the Uasin Gishu county government aimed at donating chicks to women from different wards within the county.

Speaking after issuing of the chicks, Opportunity Africa Director Mr. Cornelius Chepsoi said that the county government of Uasin Gishu was planning to donate 50,000 chicks to 500 women groups. Each group was to receive 100 chicks.

“Today, we are giving chicks to groups from five wards. These are: Huruma, Langas, Racecourse, Tarakwa and Kapseret wards. We will be issuing chicks to five groups each week for the next 10 weeks,” he said.

The Inua Mama Initiative is a project formed by the county government of Uasin Gishu County. Opportunity Africa Group was given the tender to identify the women groups, train them, supply them with the chicks and do follow-ups on their rearing.

Chepsoi said that the project has been running for the last five months. This was the first lot they were issuing with the chicks. About 15 -16 groups will receive chicks per Ward.

The Inua Mama Initiative project is yet to be launched officially. The county government through this project is targeting to give chicks in every household in the county.
