Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Boss Shollei has urged women, groups, to embrace table banking.
She said this will help them improve their livelihoods and be independent instead of always depending on their husbands for money.
“Through table banking women are empowered financially thus eradicating poverty among women through starting a project that is income generating,” she said in Eldoret town, Tuesday.
"Table banking loans are better than those financial institutions since their interest is very low. It is time for us women to use such opportunities for how long will we depend on our husbands," she added.
She reiterated that women economic empowerment is key to the growth of any nation.
“Table banking is more structured than merry go rounds, where people have no repayment methods the latter often just pay interest on the loan and the group cannot lend again since the capital is tied up,” she said.
Sholei however, urged women to ensure they join groups for them to get funds either from the county or national government.
