Kisumu deputy governor Ruth Odinga has said that ODM party led by her brother and Nasa presidential candidate Raila Odinga, was not fair to women in the recent concluded nominations.

Ruth argued that the party gave women a raw deal as it did not nominate any woman to vie for a governorship or senate seat.

“I am afraid that from this trend, we may have few or even lack a female deputy governor in our party,” Ms Odinga said as reported by the Nation.

She challenged the party to be more proactive in helping women rise to leadership positions instead of engaging in mere rhetoric.

She however, clarified that her sentiments have nothing to do with the fact that she has not been picked as a governorship running mate.

She said that she would have more time to campaign for her brother Raila who is running for presidency.

"For my case, I decided not to vie for governor and dedicate my time to campaign for Raila to become president. However, I have to state that women have got nothing as far as things in ODM are now,'' she added.
