According to Dr Samson Musange, a surgeon at the Kiambu Level 4 Hospital, the disease is medically referred to as 'Gigantomastia,' is very rare but serious.

He reported that the disease results from hormonal imbalance and not witchcraft as perceived by the local community and most women who suffer from the disease.

Dr Musange said the condition was curable and infected women should have hope and seek medical attention.

He explained that the disease was as a result of abnormal multiplication of body cells which chose to settle in soft tissues of the breasts causing discomfort to patients. The condition, he said, could only be corrected through surgery which is offered freely at Kiambu Level Four Hospital.

Dr Musange advised patients with the condition to open up and seek treatment as many patients has had the surgery successfully.

"Patients with this condition should come out and get treated since it is a medical condition and not a result of witchcraft," he advised. (Photo/ )
