A United Nations  organisation dedicated to gender equality and the empowerment of women has urged women in Nyamira County to seek elective positions in the forthcoming general election.

Addressing journalists after conducting a two-day consultative meeting with stakeholders at a Nyamira hotel, Beatrice Teya, a risk reduction and humanitarian specialist for the UN- Women said the organisation they aim to educate women on leadership and how to conduct successful campaigns.

"We are geared towards ensuring that we educate women on how to nurture their leadership skills and also conducting successful campaigns for elective positions," said Teya. 

She further said the UN-Women organisation will continue to engage political parties in ensuring that more  women get nomination slots.

"To further empower women in society as an organisation, we will engage political parties and negotiate for women to be awarded nomination slots," added Teya.
