The more than 60 women have been engaged by the road contractor as casual labourers, and earn Sh400 each day; from Monday to Saturday.

Agnes Musili, 26, who is one of the women, on Saturday told this reporter that engaging them in the construction was great favour to most of them, since they were jobless.

She thanked the contractor for engaging them in the job, arguing that there was no job meant for specific gender, claiming as women they carried out various jobs assigned to them without short fall.

“There is no need to have perception that some jobs belong to a specific gender, women can do all sorts of jobs as you can see we are at work and the contractor is impressed with our performance,” said Musili.

Musili, who is a single mother of two said women contractors should also be given more tenders by different institutions, and arms of both governments to showcase their job prowess.

She said it was not easy to get a paying job like that, noting that a number of employers who offer women jobs in the region exploited them in terms of remuneration with poor terms and conditions of work.

Musili however advised her women colleagues to be focused and save for credible businesses once the road was done by July this year, as expected in a bid of earning more decent lives.
