Nakuru County women leaders led by County Assembly Speaker Susan Kihika have lauded efforts by the PCEA Church in building schools for boy child education.
While speaking Tuesday in Naivasha together with nominated Senator Martha Wangare and Viwandani ward MCA Esther Njeri, the leaders said time has come for the society and government to focus on the needs of the boy child.
“For a long time, we have shifted focus to the girl-child and the boy-child has been forgotten and the aftermath of all that is that we have endangered him and put him in situations which ruin his life,” said Kihika
She thanked PCEA Church Naivasha for making efforts to set up a school where boys have the opportunity to get education.
She said she will continue spearheading efforts to save the boy-child from extinction and empower them through different facets of life.
On her part, Viwandani MCA said boys who are raised by single mothers are often ostracized by the society and it lowers their self-esteem the more the reason why more young men indulge in alcoholism and crime.
Senator Wangare urged elders to take up the responsibility of guiding young men regardless of if they are from single families.
“The elders in our towns and villages have a role to play because they are the people who are supposed to shape our young men so they become responsible men and women in future,” she said.
