A women lobby group in Nakuru that advocates for the girl child protection is up in arms with the local law enforcers for releasing a man who is suspected to have cohabited and impregnated an underage girl.
Mawanga Progressive and Girl Child Rights Watchdog Group secretary Elizabeth Kihara, while accompanied by other officials and members of the group warned that the group would petition the National Police Commission and the Minister for Interior Security to take action against local police for abetting serous human rights violations against an underage girl.
Last week, a suspected child defiler, Jacob Okila, was released on police bond at the local Teachers police post, after police claimed that there was no enough evidence to prosecute him in the allegations in which he is said to have cohabited with a standard six dropout girl before impregnating her.
The child’s mother, who is a single woman has since appealed to women and girl child lobby groups to intervene for her child’s justice.
She also wants the man, who is a business person in the area, compelled to support both the girl and the unborn baby.
“There are many options that we will apply to ensure that justice is done. This man behaved beastly and ruined the young girls’ dreams of continuing with school after she had dropped out as her single mother could not afford fees for some time,” lamented Kihara.
