Speaking at Kabatini Ward in Bahati constituency during a girl-child awareness day, Mwangi says that the quality of education for girls has been on the decline owing to outdated cultural practices.

She added: “The future of the girl-child education in our county is bleak. Cultural practices are to be blamed for the poor enrolment of girls in Bahati schools.”

She also decried the instances of early marriages which is also hindering the girl-child’s progress.

“Early marriages and lack of interest from parents have eroded the girl-child status. This is depriving them of quality education and many life opportunities which are opened up by it,” said Mwangi.

She urged the county government and private entities to set up model girls’ schools to increase the number of girls being enrolled at the basic level.

Mwangi also called on residents to elect responsible leaders who will bring changes in the county.

“We need leaders who are development-oriented and corrupt-free. Leaders with integrity should be elected if we want to perform better and advance especially in education,” said Mwangi.
