A section of clan members have disowned Garissa women representative aspirant Fatuma Kinsi’s candidature and endorsed another politician for the same position.
In a meeting held in Nairobi on Friday, the Samawathal and the Abduwak clans decided to pick Anab Subow to vie for the Garissa Women Rep seat come 2017 instead of Kinsi.
Addressing members of the press, Kinsi, who was once an activist and founder of the Pastoral Girls’ Initiative lamented that the move to endorse another person was unfair.
According to Kinsi, the clan members who endorsed another leader for the same position did not take into account her ability to fight to the rights of her people.
Kinsi insisted that she was the first one to declare interest in the seat and it was not right for the members to replace her with another person.
She affirmed that nothing will stand between her and the seat when that time comes.
“I assure all my supporters that nothing within the context of the ruling of negotiated democracy excludes me from participating in the August 8, 2017 election,” she said.
“I therefore assure my supporters that we are determined to go all the way in this race for Garissa county woman rep and look forward to victory,” she added
