Shakila has been accused of bribing different parties in the Coast region, in a bid to ensure the Sh200 billion project is not established.

Speaking at the Sunsail Hotel in Lamu Town, Shakila said she has the interest of her people at heart.

The women rep has been opposing the project, arguing it will have a negative impact on the lives of the people.

“I want to make it clear that I have not been paid a dime by anyone. I am doing this out of my own volition and based on the fact that I am an elected leader who ought to defend the interests of my people. It’s a war I shall fight to the bitter end. There will be no coal plant in Lamu because it will have a negative impact on our health and environment,” said Shakilla, as quoted by Baraka FM.

She lashed out at the county government of Lamu over claims of colluding with different organisations including the National Environment and Management Authority (NEMA) and the Energy Regulations Commission (ERC) to impose the project on the people.
