Jubilee leaders from Nyandarua County have rallied behind Women Rep nominee Faith Wairimu Gitau after the party affirmed her nomination following interviews with all the candidates.

The court of appeal had nullified Wairimu’s nomination, ruling it in favour of incumbent Wanjiku Muhiya and ordered fresh nominations within two days, but the party opted for interviews as per its constitution

The party has now forwarded Gitau’s name to the IEBC for clearance.

After a long and strenuous court battle, the hustle of nominating a candidate for the seat fell back to the hands of the party.

A three-judge bench of the court of appeal had offered incumbent Wanjiku Muhiya a temporary lifeline, when they nullified the judgment of the High Court that took the party ticket, handed it to her party and gave it back it to her competitor Faith Gitau.

The court of appeal ordered a fresh nomination within two days, but according to the party constitution, Jubilee opted for interviews of all candidates as opposed to repeating a nomination exercise.

Muhiya is said to have walked out of consensus talks, and later declined to take part in the interviews.

The party has now given Gitau a nomination certificate and has forwarded her name to the IEBC for clearance.

“Yesterday, the four of us, all the candidates for women representative in Nyandarua, we went for a Jubilee nomination process according to the constitution, and yet again I emerged the winner,” said Gitau.

The county has been marred by protests following uncertainties over the nomination.

In the Jubilee party nominations held in April, Faith Gitau got 106,004 votes, against Wanjiku Muhiya’s 75,296 votes.
