Pressure has mounted on Keroka OCPD to have Metamaywa police road block done away with following allegations that the officers were engaging in massive corruption.

This comes after matatu operators from the region accused officers on the road block of using their powers to solicit for money.

Speaking on Wednesday during a burial ceremony of a taut who recently died in the nearby Mochenwa, Nyamira Women Representative Alice Chae said the road block was of no use and urged the OCPD to act in speed and get rid of it.

“This road block (Metamaywa) is always mentioned for all wrong reasons. The victims have raised pertinent issues about corruption and this isn’t the first time. The OCPD can do justice if he gets rid of it before we advance the matter to the national assembly. We don’t want people to be obtaining money through unjustifiable means,” she said.

She lauded the Matatu operators for standing firm to condemn the habit and said it was the beginning of ensuring traffic rules were adhered to for the sake of improving road safety.

“And I want to thank you for saying no to corruption. We want the police also to respect that and do their work efficiently. This is the way we can appreciate the rule of law and perhaps reduce accidents,” she added.

Keroka OCPD Peterson Maelo could neither admit nor deny corruption on the road block but promised to investigate the claims and take swift action.

“I have heard the information but I still don’t have tangible proof to the allegations. As police officers, we don’t condone corruption but I will investigate the claims and take action soon, if need be,” he told this writer on phone.
