Kisii woman representative Mary Otara has launched sanitary towels program in aid of helping the girl child.
The program seeks to reach several institutions across the county and is powered by the National Government Affirmative Action Fund under the leadership of the Women Representative.
Speaking during the event on Monday at Nyamerako primary school Mama county said that she has launched the programme so that she can help the girls who might be out of school due to lack of the sanitary towels.
“I am happy to launch this program because it will help the girl-child be constituent in terms of attending classes during the menstrual period,” she said
“As a parent and a mother, I want our girls to remain in school during menstrual cycle so that they too get same learning time with the rest. We want to do away with their absenteeism so that girl child can get an education as any other,” she added.
Mary also said that the initiative will also be accompanied by water tanks to schools in aid of helping schools to harvest water.
"Some of our schools have no water, we need to give them water tanks in aid of having water for future use," she said.
Mary Otara has been seen initiating many projects in aid of helping the ladies in society since she was given the kitty she promised to do more in empowering the society.
