Jerusha said most parents in the county are unable to afford buying the sanitary towels to girls due to the high levels of poverty in the region.

“Most parents are struggling to raise fees for their children after schools reopened on Monday for second term.

"I will provide free sanitary pads to all girls in Nyamira schools on a monthly basis to help girls who are menstruating to use them as they study in schools,” she said.

She regretted that many girls drop school because their parents don’t support them fully.

“Nyamira girls engage in love affairs at a tender age so that they can get financial support from old men well known as sponsors.

"This has affected education of the girl child in the county because most girls drop school to be married or after they are impregnated by the sponsors.

"Throughout my tenure I will offer necessary support to girls to keep them in school as their parents struggle to raise fees,” she stated.

The MP warned men against taking advantage of the poor girls to cheat them to drop school saying police officers, chiefs and Nyumba Kumi officials should be on high alert to arrest such people who are dangerous to the lives of girls.
