The members held demonstrations yesterday afternoon in Kisumu, saying they have no confidence in group chairlady Atieno Otieno.

Speaking to the press, the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Kisumu branch treasurer Olive Okal said chairlady of the group accused six members of the executive committee of receiving funds from the president's office.

"We got a call this morning, that we are needed at the police station, the six members of the executive committee," said Okal.

She added: "Chairlady should come out clearly and say, the place and people who said it. Because six people cannot say the same thing unless it was in forum or board meeting."

Okal claimed that Atieno had not been discharging her duties well and that she had failed to give direction in terms of leadership.

"She is violating the same constitution that had put her in office and she does things with impunity," she said.

She added: "Today we were supposed to have a meeting, in fact the chairlady sent texts the previous day at 4pm. Later, she doesn't attend meetings, saying she is bereaved."

She lamented that some of the women had travelled from Muhoroni, Nyando only to learn that the meeting has been cancelled.
