The office of Nyamira Women representative has delivered bursaries worth Sh1.8 million to 70 students across the county.
The bursaries targeted children from the humble backgrounds and the list was arrived at after intensive scrutiny by committee in charge of the kitty.
Speaking on Monday during an exclusive interview with the reporter, area Women Representative Alice Chae said her office would be keen to support brilliant students from poor backgrounds.
“My office is keen to support bright children because they are a perfect investment in our community. They deserve the support because as leaders, we are their only hope,” she said.
“The recruitment process of beneficiaries was fair and I believe my team did a good job. We only targeted extremely vulnerable students and I am happy that they will now learn in their respective institutions without unprecedented academic interruption,” Chae added.
The former Egesa FM presenter expressed her optimism on a possible win in Wednesday’s determination of a petition challenging the establishment of Women Representatives kitty.
“The Women representative kitty can do a lot of wonders. In a small duration of time, we have managed to deliver the Sh1.8 million cheques to these deserving children. I am confident that the High court will throw a petition challenging the establishment of Women Representative kitty,” she said.
Chae also defended her track record, saying her office had managed to launch successful campaigns in supporting women groups and other social amenities across the county.
“I have been only working with the little I earn as an MP but still management to support a host of women groups. I am confident that with the kitty in place, I will be able to extend the support to youths and the old aged people,” she said.
