Garissa County women representative, Shukran Hussein Gure has maintained her commitment at improving education standards for needy school girls in Garissa County through scholarships.
Speaking on Wednesday after presenting cheques for 38 students to Yathrib Girls Secondary School, head teacher, Shukran asserted that a girl's education stimulates educational consciousness and a civic sense among family members.
"The girl-child must be given all the necessary education. Ignoring her or keeping her illiterate means we are creating an illiterate and ignorant generation," Shukran said.
Shukran said her plan is to pay school fees for 500 needy girls across the county within the next seven days.
The presentation of the cheques comes a few days after the women representative promised to pay school fees for 35 needy girls from Yathrib Girls Secondary School while attending a county government function.
The school also benefited full scholarship from NCPD for all disabled students.
