Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga said women should use their ability to influence political change in the country.

“Women have the capacity to defeat male candidates. They just need to organize themselves and pull together. We have the numbers,” she said.

Odinga said women should support each other for the political positions which have been largely dominated by their male counterparts for a long time.

Speaking in Kisumu on Tuesday during training for women organized by UN Women, Odinga said there is need for more sensitization meetings to bring on board many women in the political arena.

“Such forums are very important specifically at a time we are heading to the elections so that women can be empowered up to the finishing line,” she said.

The women expressed fear perpetuated by political violence that stops them from participating in political affairs.

They said violence reduces the confidence of women and further undermines their dignity.

Odinga further asked female nominated MCAs to take a stab at the ballot and compete effectively with men.

She said the MCAs have undergone various leadership trainings and have the capacity to mount aggressive campaigns.
