Former chang’aa brewers in Uasin Gishu County have urged their fellows to quit brewing and get involved in other activities.
Speaking in Eldoret on Wednesday, Rose Mwangi, a former chang’aa brewer said that women should join groups and get helps from supporters.
“I was a chang’aa brewer and one day I invited Governor Mandago thinking he was just a customer, but he instead promised to help me if I quit the business,” said Mwangi.
Mwangi said that she informed her friends and formed a group and were given a loan by the county government to start a different investment.
“We were given Sh100,000 which we divided amongst ourselves and started different projects. Now we are successful,” added Mwangi.
Lucy Muthoni, one of the beneficiaries of the loan urged brewers to quit the business to get help from the county.
Governor Jackson Mandago has said that the county is willing to help brewers who are ready to invest in other business.
He further advised other counties to set aside funds to women and youths to empower themselves.
