Ikinu women have been urged to buy water tanks for harvesting rain water.

Priscilla Wambui, the Chairlady of Ikinu Women Group says that the group has launched distribution of water tanks to its members in readiness to harvest rain water during the long rains expected in a few weeks.

“The aim of this project is to buy tanks and distribute them to our members,” said Wambui.

Speaking on Thursday at Lioki Location, Githunguri Sub County during the handing over of eight tanks to the members of the group, Wambui said the project would ensure women have access to clean water.

“We want every household of our members to have access of clean water for domestic consumption,” said Wambui.

Wambui said that the tanks would address the perennial water shortage being witnessed in the area.

“Rioki has been eperiencing frequent water shortages and it is our pleasure that this project will end our suffering,” said Wambui.

Josephine Kariuki, one of the beneficiary of the project said accessing clean water was a dream to her.

“I cannot remember when last I accessed clean water. I have been using water from a river but with the tank, I am comfortable,” said Kariuki.

Wambui urged other women to form groups to facilitate in the acquisition of tanks for harvesting clean water for their families.

“With a tank, you can harvest water that can last for many months,” said Wambui.

The chairlady further urged the county government of Kiambu to provide them with piped water.
