Agnes Wangui, the chairlady of Ikinu Goat Group has called on women to venture into goat farming to improve their livelihoods and generate income.

She said that owing to less management in goat farming, the undertaking suits rural women.

“You do not need a huge capital and resources to venture in goat farming. All you need is a seed capital of Sh 10, 000 to buy a goat and a little money for construction of a shed,” said Wangui.

Speaking on Tuesday at Ngemwa Location during a training of a group of women who had shown interest in goat farming, Wangui urged women to form groups to facilitate easier operations in the activity.

“Grouping is an important step in successful undertaking in goat farming because you can access funds if you do not have starting capital,” said Wangui.

Wangui noted that goat farming has improved many lives of rural women.

“With goat farming, women are now able to support their families with cash generated from sale of milk,” said Wangui.

She also said that goat milk is nutritional in upbringing little children.

“Goat milk is nutritional and recommended for little children,” said Wangui.

She urged women to give first priority to training.

“Women should form a habit of attending series of trainings to equip them in the operations of goat farming,” she added.

Wangui urged government to support grassroots women in starting projects especially in farming.
