Speaking on Wednesday in Kisumu during the launch of media monitoring analysis on the coverage of two thirds gender principle, AMWIK Senior programme officer Lilian Juma said the analysis was done between January and June.

"There are many women, including Winfred Lichuma, the chairperson of National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) who have been championing the debate on the 2/3 gender principle. You find from the report that she is missing a great deal from the media," said Juma.

She said that other women leaders who have championed the debate and pushing for the mechanism of 2/3 gender principle have their voices missing from the report.

"The large percentage of the male leaders who received coverage are national political leaders. The leader of opposition Raila Odinga received more coverage. Women from civil society organisations had higher coverage cumulatively than women political leaders," she said.

Juma said that the missing of voices of women political leaders might send a wrong signal.

"We really want the public to engage in the debate and support the ongoing processes in the 2/3 gender principle," she said.
