Women especially those expecting to bear children have been warned against smoking as such have big tendencies of interfering with their fertility capacities while also affecting the health of both born and unborn babies. According to Wanyoike, smoking of cigarettes and other drugs affect the fertility of mothers and complicates births due to cancer related ailments. She said that young women and those undergoing births should avoid smoking because research shows that majority of women smokers experience fertility and birth complications. Representative of World Cancer Foundation Kenya Dr Beatrice Wanyoike was addressing pre-natal and post-natal patients at the Bondeni Women Hospital in Nakuru town yesterday. “Smoking is becoming a common practice by many women in Kenya especially in urban areas but this is a dangerous habit that causes fertility and birth complications. You are unlikely to conceive or have a peaceful pregnancy and delivery experience if you are a smoker,’’ said Wanyoike.
