Women and youths in Siaya County have been encouraged to form well organized and registered groups through which they can access government development funds and grants.
Siaya County Women Representative Dr. Christine Ombaka says that the women and youths can only benefit from those funds if they are in groups because such funds do not benefit people as individuals.
She stated for instance that there is the National Government Affirmative Action Fund (NGAAF) which is a grant that is given to her office but strictly to well-organized women and youth groups.
The legislator added that there is also the Uwezo fund, the Women Enterprise Fund, and the Youth Enterprise Fund which are all given out in terms of loans.
Dr. Ombaka who was speaking in Ugunja constituency revealed that they are still fighting at the national assembly to get more funds and therefore impressed upon the women and youths to ensure they establish those groups to be able to apply for those funds to enhance their socio-economic wellbeing.
She stated that after forming those groups, they must also be ready to apply for the various funds, noting that no one will bring the money to their doorsteps if they don’t apply for it.
