The women from Kivumbini, Flamingo and Mengai wards said that they want to promote patriotism among all the cosmopolitan tribes living in these wards.

Speaking on Wednesday at Kivumbini playground, Nakuru Women Movement chairlady Margret Atieno said that their focus is to see residents in these areas live in peace.

The organisation, comprising women from all tribes living in the three wards, also aims to address the problem of negative ethnicity in the camps of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

“Scores of Kenyans are languishing in IDP camps because a section of politicians have fanned the embers of negative ethnicity. We want to reverse the situation, we want peace and to live as one family,” said Atieno.

Atieno said that their mission is to unite all tribes and live as brothers and sisters, further urging politicians to stop planting the seeds of discord among the cosmopolitan communities.

The chairlady also cautioned residents in the areas to turn away from retrogressive politicians who spread the gospel of tribal hatred.
