Women leaders from Trans-Nzoia County today assured President Uhuru Kenyatta of their full support during the repeat Presidential elections on October 17.
The women promised to pull a major surprise by coming out in larger numbers than they did on August 8 to vote and reconfirm President Kenyatta as the Kenyan people’s popular choice.
The women spoke at Sirwo Farm Resort where the First Lady Margaret Kenyatta hosted them to a luncheon after launching (in Kitale) the Help Me Walk Project -a new outreach initiative by AIC-CURE International that aims at providing multi-faceted solutions to children living with disability.
Intervention under the Help Me Walk project will include free corrective surgeries, orthopaedic operations for malformed bones, rehabilitative care, counseling and the provision of free mobility assistive devices.
The women leaders and mothers from Cherangany who were mobilized by former Senator Zipporah Kittony promised to lobby all their colleagues and friends to rally behind President Kenyatta during the coming polls.
During the August 8 General elections, President Kenyatta garnered 110,000 votes in Trans-Nzoia County against Opposition’s 134,000 votes.
The people of Trans-Nzoia also voted for Jubilee candidates for the Senator and the Women representative positions in addition to two Members of Parliament (Cherangany and Endebess) and 12 Members of the County Assembly.
“We are still in Jubilee. We shall come out in larger numbers and support our President on October 17”, said Jane Wekesa, a nominated MCA and an official of the Maendeleo Ya Wanawake Organization.
Thanking the women for supporting President Kenyatta during the August 8 elections, the First Lady asked the women to come out in even larger numbers and firmly re-endorse President Kenyatta with their votes.
“I once again ask for your votes. We must come out in larger numbers and vote for President Kenyatta “, said the First Lady.
