The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga has been challenged to reach out to Deputy President William Ruto for a possible coalition to boost his presidential bid.
Ruto, a former ally of the veteran politician ditched the ODM for URP and recently, together with President Uhuru Kenyatta, formed a new political outfit, the Jubilee Party.
And now Nyamira County Assembly Majority leader Laban Masira has not ruled out the possibility of the two working together; terming them ‘great friends’.
“When I try to look at the political dynamics of our nation, I still believe that Raila still needs Ruto to strengthen his victory in 2017. Of cause, they may have differed but I think in politics we don’t have permanent enemies,” he said.
“Ruto has a solid voting bloc that cannot be ignored in Kenyan politics and that is the reality. Our party leader should try to reach out to him because I believe they can still work together,” he added.
He said the Deputy President's chances of becoming president after Uhuru were ‘minimal’ doubting the automatic support from central Kenya region.
“Honestly, Ruto’s presidency is real on Raila’s side and not when being supported by President Uhuru. The central region has a history of always supporting one of their own,” he said.
