Investors have been urged to work hand-in-hand with locals to ensure their investments gain a foothold in Kisumu County.
Kisumu People’s Parliament secretary-general Kevin Owino said most business ventures funded by investors in Kisumu county fail because investors work with politicians instead of residents.
“We do not want politicians to take advantage of this. We know they are the representatives but they must give investors room to do free and fair recruitments,” said Owino.
In an interview with HiviSasa.com on Friday, Owino said that the public is concerned because politicians are taking employment slots for themselves whenever an investor comes up with an investment in Kisumu County.
He said investors should be ready to give out 70 percent of employment opportunities to the locals as a means of returning back to the community and ensuring that locals identify with the investment.
Owino urged Kisumu residents to always maintain peace, saying it is the only way to achieve economic development.
His sentiments follow claims that politicians hijacked recruitment exercise when Uchumi Supermarket opened its branch in Kisumu town mid this year.
