Kisii Governor James Ongwae should hold dialogue with area Senator Chris Obure to avoid an ‘embarrassing’ defeat in 2017 polls, notes former Nyaribari Masaba MP Hezron Manduku.

Mr Obure is reportedly teaming up with former CIC chair Charles Nyachae to counter Mr Ongwae in 2017 elections which Manduku terms a battle of titans.

Speaking to the reporter on Tuesday, Manduku said Obure-Nyachae coalition would dismantle Mr Ongwae reelection plans if he fails to intervene in time and persuade Mr Obure to drop his gubernatorial seat.

“I just want to advise Mr Ongwae to reach his Senator urgently or face an embarrassing defeat in 2017 polls. Obure is a force in Kisii County politics and his gubernatorial bid is a shortcoming to Mr Ongwae,” he said.

“He should persuade Obure to drop the bid as soon as possible before his collation with Nyachae is finalised. I am seeing a possibility of his second term bid dismantled by the looming collation,” he added.

He, however, said Ongwae could still rescue his reelection bid by teaming with South Mugirango MP Manson Nyamweya to neutralise Obure-Nyachae collation.

“Obure will conquer Bobasi while Nyachae will bring the Nyaribari people who dominate Kisii politics. However, if Ongwae brings Nyamweya, he will be assured of Mugirango votes and his Bogetutu backyard but still he needs to reach Obure before going for the second alternative,” he said.
