Kiambu traffic police boss Gabriel Mulei has asked Thika boda boda operators to work with the police to tame rising crime targeting them.
Addressing boda boda operators at Thika town over the weekend, Mulei said that cases of crime targeting boda boda and tuk tuk operators are on the rise.
He said that his office has received several complaints, noting that security measures are in place to address the problem.
He indicated that investigations have been launched into the claims and that those involved will be arrested and charged in court.
“We have launched investigations into claims that criminals are targeting boda boda operators in some parts of Thika town,” he said.
The police boss asked operators to exercise caution and take note of the people they carry. He further asked them to share information they might have on the suspected criminals.
Mulei indicated that police will not tire up in the fight against crime, saying that their criminal days are ‘numbered’.
The officer stated that patrols will be intensified in the area and that anyone found contravening the law will be arrested and taken to court.
Mulei at the same time asked operators to ensure they adhere to traffic rules, saying that cases of accidents involving cyclists are on the rise.
He said the law will not be lenient on any one found going against traffic rules.
“I want to also urge boda boda operators to ensure they conform to the aid out traffic rules,” he said.
